BEGODE
Begode Monster
SKU: EUC-BGMON-001
Description
The Monster is the iconic very-large-wheel electric unicycle (EUC) from Gotway, the Chinese maker later rebranded as Begode. Its defining feature is a 22-inch pneumatic wheel — far larger than the 14- to 18-inch wheels typical of other EUCs — which for years made it the biggest production unicycle available. It runs an 84 V battery system (a 100 V variant was offered later) with a high-capacity pack, most commonly cited at 2,400 Wh using Panasonic cells, paired with a single hub motor rated around 1,600 W (roughly 2,400 W peak; later V3 builds stepped the motor up). The large diameter gives the Monster an exceptionally smooth, stable ride and the ability to roll over bumps, trail debris and rough surfaces with little disturbance, which is why it is prized as a long-distance and light off-road cruiser. The trade-offs are size and practicality: it is tall, heavy (around 29-33 kg depending on battery), slow to charge (roughly 18-20 hours on the standard charger), and clumsy in tight urban spaces. Manufacturer top speed is quoted near 40-50 km/h, with riders reporting figures up to about 55 km/h, and the big pack enables very long range — up to roughly 220 km in ideal conditions for the 2,400 Wh model. It has no suspension; the comfort comes entirely from the oversized tire.
Highlights
- 22-inch pneumatic wheel — for years the largest production EUC wheel, giving an unusually smooth, planted ride
- 84 V battery system (a 100 V / 1,845 Wh variant was later offered alongside the classic 84 V)
- Large 2,400 Wh battery (Panasonic cells); smaller 1,600 Wh option also sold
- Single hub motor rated around 1,600 W, roughly 2,400 W peak (later V3 builds raised the motor power)
- Very long range — up to about 220 km in ideal conditions for the 2,400 Wh pack
- No suspension; ride comfort comes entirely from the oversized 22-inch tire
Model history
Gotway introduced the Monster around 2017 as the first 22-inch electric unicycle, dramatically larger than the era’s common 14- to 16-inch wheels, and for a long time it held the title of the biggest and longest-range production EUC. Gotway was also an early adopter of the 84 V battery class that later became near-universal, and a 100 V Monster variant followed. The Monster became an icon of the high-range, big-wheel cruiser niche, and its name later carried into the larger, faster Monster Pro generation under the Begode brand.

Pros & cons
Pros
- Exceptionally smooth, stable ride from the oversized 22-inch wheel, on road and light trails
- Very long range — the 2,400 Wh pack can reach roughly 220 km in ideal conditions
- Strong straight-line cruising and confident high-speed stability for a unicycle
- Large wheel rolls over bumps, gravel and debris with little disturbance
- Historically significant — the first 22-inch EUC and a long-time range/size record holder
Cons
- Very large and heavy (around 29-33 kg) — awkward to carry, lift or maneuver in tight spaces
- No suspension; all comfort relies on the big pneumatic tire
- Slow to charge — roughly 18-20 hours on the standard single charger
- Poor low-speed agility and a wide turning circle make it impractical in dense urban traffic
- No published IP rating — not intended for wet-weather riding
Verdict
The Monster suits experienced riders who prioritize long-distance cruising comfort and range over portability and city agility. Its 22-inch wheel delivers a uniquely smooth ride, but the size, weight and very long charge time make it a specialist big-wheel cruiser rather than an everyday or beginner machine.
What reviewers say
-
Even if Gotway Monster is an unquestionable record holder when it comes to maximum speed and range, it does not mean much.

As the Wheel size increases, there are number of perceptible differences to the ride; most notable of these is the relative smoothness.
