InMotion V8F

SKU: EUC-IMV8-001

Description

The InMotion V8F is a compact 16-inch electric unicycle built around an 84V battery rated at 518Wh and a hub motor with a 1000W nominal rating and a 2000W peak. It is the upgraded successor to the original V8, which InMotion introduced in 2016 and which became one of the best-selling electric unicycles ever made. Reviewers consistently frame the V8F as an entry-level commuter wheel: at roughly 15kg it is light enough to carry up stairs or roll alongside you, and its slim, tall profile makes mounting and dismounting easy for newcomers. The wheel reaches about 35km/h once speed limits are unlocked in the companion app and is rated by the manufacturer for a maximum range near 55km, though real-world range is closer to 35km depending on rider weight, speed and terrain. It runs a 16x2.125-inch pneumatic Kenda tire with no suspension, carries an IP55 weather rating, and adds larger 9.5-inch magnesium pedals, built-in leg pads, a front headlight, a brake-responsive taillight and customizable side LEDs over the original V8. There is no traditional display; the V8F relies on LED indicators and the InMotion app for statistics and configuration.

Model history

InMotion launched the original V8 in 2016, and it went on to become one of the best-selling electric unicycles ever produced. The V8F arrived in 2019 as a refreshed version, adding a more powerful 1000W motor, a larger 518Wh battery, a higher top speed, an updated controller and improved pedals and pads. Thanks to its low weight and accessible handling, the V8F has long been recommended as one of the definitive beginner and commuter wheels.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Light and portable for stairs, transit and indoor storage
  • Surprising torque that reviewers compare to larger wheels
  • Tall, slim shape makes mounting and learning easier
  • Larger grippy pedals and leg pads improve control and comfort
  • Accessible entry point into the electric unicycle hobby

Cons

  • Modest top speed compared with performance wheels
  • No suspension, so rough roads transmit more vibration
  • Real-world range falls well short of the rated maximum
  • No traditional display; relies on the app and LED indicators
  • 16-inch wheel is less stable at speed than larger models

Verdict

The InMotion V8F is best understood as a benchmark beginner and commuter electric unicycle: light, portable and forgiving, with more torque than its modest stats suggest. Reviewers consistently recommend it as an accessible first wheel while noting its limited top speed, lack of suspension and optimistic range rating. It suits new riders and short-distance commuters more than speed- or distance-focused enthusiasts.
