KingSong 18XL

SKU: EUC-KS18XL-001

Description

The KingSong 18XL (KS-18XL) is an 18-inch electric unicycle (EUC) introduced in late 2018 as the long-range flagship of KingSong’s 18-inch line. It is built around a single 2200W hub motor (about 4000W peak) on an 84V system, paired with a large 1554Wh battery built from Samsung 35E cells in a 20s6p configuration (120 cells). The headline change over the earlier 18L was the jump from a 1036Wh pack to 1554Wh in essentially the same chassis, which gave the 18XL its signature long range. KingSong claims up to roughly 140 km, while independent and real-world testing typically lands nearer 80-100 km depending on speed, rider weight and terrain. Top speed is about 50 km/h (31 mph). The 18XL has no suspension — the large 18x2.5-inch pneumatic tire and big 25 cm pedals are the only cushioning. At roughly 24-25 kg it is a substantial machine moved with a retractable trolley handle, and it adds a four-speaker sound system, a full set of lights (headlight, brake light, customisable RGB side lights) and KingSong app connectivity over Bluetooth. As with any unicycle, balancing it is a serious skill that must be learned before riding at speed, and full protective gear is essential.

Model history

KingSong, one of the longest-running electric-unicycle makers, launched the 18XL in late 2018 as the long-range successor to its 18L, with community reviews appearing on the Electric Unicycle Forum by November 2018. Its defining feature was upgrading the battery from 1036Wh to 1554Wh without materially changing the body, making it one of the era’s most popular high-mileage 18-inch wheels. The 18XL became a benchmark long-distance EUC of its generation and a direct sibling to the wide-tire 16X that followed in 2019, before suspension models such as KingSong’s own S18 arrived.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Large 1554Wh battery delivers class-leading range for its era
  • Big 18-inch wheel gives smooth, stable, comfortable long-distance cruising
  • 2200W motor with about 4000W peak handles hills and acceleration well
  • Full feature set: four speakers, RGB lights, two USB ports and a strong trolley handle
  • Retractable trolley handle eases moving the roughly 24-25 kg wheel

Cons

  • No suspension — comfort relies entirely on the tire over rough ground
  • Heavy at roughly 24-25 kg, tiring to carry up stairs
  • Steep learning curve — riding a unicycle demands real balancing skill
  • 31 mph top speed is dangerous without experience and full protective gear
  • Manufacturer range claim (about 140 km) is optimistic versus real-world figures

Verdict

The KingSong 18XL was a defining long-range EUC of its generation: a big 18-inch wheel, large 1554Wh battery and a capable 2200W motor make it a smooth, far-reaching cruiser, at the cost of weight and the complete absence of suspension. It is not a beginner toy — it is fast and demands confident balancing skills plus full protective gear (helmet, plus wrist, elbow and knee protection). Real-world range falls short of the optimistic factory claim, so judge it on tested figures.

What reviewers say

  • The most notable upgrade of the KS18XL is the 1554Wh battery pack, over the 1036Wh in the 18L, without materially altering the body.
    eWheels
  • KS-18XL takes a large 18 inch wheel design and fits it into a slim and portable package.
    MyKingSong
  • The 18 XL does, however, beat in long stretched comfortable rides due to its larger wheel.
