SEGWAY
Segway Ninebot F40
SKU: NINEBOT-F40
Description
The Segway Ninebot F40 is the top model of Segway-Ninebot’s first dedicated F-series, sitting above the F25 and F30. It is built around a single 350 W nominal front hub motor with 700 W peak output, fed by a 36 V, 10.2 Ah lithium-ion pack rated at 367 Wh — the largest in the original F-series — for a quoted top speed of 30 km/h (EU variants limited to 25 km/h) and a claimed range of up to 40 km. Stopping is handled by a dual system: front-wheel electronic/regenerative braking plus a rear mechanical disc brake, operated through twin levers. It rides on 10-inch pneumatic anti-skid tyres with no dedicated suspension, leaning on the larger tyres for shock absorption, and carries an IPX5 water-resistance rating, a quick-folding stem, a handlebar LED dashboard and Bluetooth app locking. Segway is the historic US personal-transporter brand, owned since 2015 by Beijing-based Ninebot and now operating as Segway-Ninebot, with the F-series engineered and built in China. The honest trade-offs are a modest 36 V platform, no suspension and a fixed-speed single-motor drivetrain aimed at flat-to-rolling city commuting rather than hills or performance riding.

Model history
The F40 launched in 2021 as the flagship of Segway-Ninebot’s first dedicated F-series (F25/F30/F40), announced through the brand’s ninth Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign on 24 May 2021. It is significant as the line that succeeded the hugely popular ES-series and positioned Ninebot squarely in the mid-range commuter market against Xiaomi, becoming one of the best-selling commuter scooters of its generation. Within the F-series the F40 carried the most powerful motor and the largest battery, giving it the best range and speed of the line, and at launch it had the highest 120 kg load rating of any Ninebot kickscooter and UL-2272 certification for electrical and fire safety.

Pros & cons
Pros
- Strongest motor and largest battery in the original F-series, for the best range and speed of the line
- 10-inch pneumatic anti-skid tyres soften small bumps despite the lack of suspension
- Dual braking combines electronic/regenerative and mechanical disc for redundancy
- High 120 kg load rating and UL-2272 safety certification
- Bluetooth-locking companion app with battery, mileage and energy-recovery controls
Cons
- No dedicated suspension, so ride comfort relies entirely on the tyres
- Modest 36 V platform with a single front motor limits hill-climbing and outright performance
- Roughly 6.5-hour charge time from empty
- Quoted 40 km range falls in real use, especially at higher speeds or with heavier riders
- 30 km/h top speed exceeds the legal limit in many regions, where it is capped to 25 km/h
Verdict
The Ninebot F40 is a straightforward mid-range commuter aimed at flat-to-rolling city riding, with the longest range and highest speed of the original F-series. It best suits everyday commuters who want larger pneumatic tyres and a high load rating over suspension, steep-hill ability or top-tier performance.

With 10-inch pneumatic tires, small bumps felt insignificant, and the shock absorption made even the rough roads of downtown feel manageable.
Electric Wheelers (James Heath) -
It strikes an excellent balance between performance and durability, with a few manageable quirks.
Electric Scooter Guide -
The Ninebot F40 offers higher performance with a 350W motor and a maximum speed of 32 km/h (20 mph).
