DUALTRON
Dualtron Thunder 2
SKU: DT-THUNDER-2-LG40
Description
The Dualtron Thunder 2 is Minimotors’ flagship hyper-class electric scooter. Twin BLDC hub motors deliver a combined peak output of 10,080 W via a double-pull throttle boost, propelling the scooter to 100 km/h. The 72 V 40 Ah (2,880 Wh) lithium-ion pack using LG 21700 M50T cells achieves up to 170 km range under ideal conditions (75 kg rider, 25 km/h, flat terrain). The LP16 dual charging ports allow simultaneous charging from standard and fast chargers, reducing full-charge time to approximately 6 hours. NUTT full-hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors provide precise, consistent stopping power. The patented rubber-cartridge suspension system offers 45-stage adjustability (front non-adjustable; rear with 5 interchangeable cartridge hardness levels plus arm-length tuning). Eleven-inch ultra-wide tubeless CST tyres give confident grip in wet or uneven conditions. The EY4 Bluetooth color display pairs with the Minimotors Dualtron app for real-time telemetry, settings management, and remote locking. RGB LED strips on deck and handlebars are remote-controlled. IPX5 chassis (IPX7 display) withstands water jets. Two-touch double-folding system (handlebar + steering tube) enables storage. Aviation-grade 6082-T6 aluminium alloy frame, SCM440 steel axles. Discontinued; replaced by Thunder 3.

Model history
The Dualtron Thunder 2 is the second-generation flagship of Minimotors’ Thunder line and a hyper-class benchmark released in 2022. It pairs dual motors (up to 10,080 W peak via a dual-throttle boost) with a record-setting 72 V 40 Ah (2,880 Wh) LG 21700 pack — among the largest ever fitted to a production scooter. A 4th-generation frame, stronger stem clamp, turn signals and motorcycle-grade horn made it best known for combining brutal acceleration with class-leading range.

Pros & cons
Pros
- Dual BLDC hub motors (2400W rated, 5400W peak) deliver strong acceleration and roughly 50 mph top speed
- Large 60V 35Ah LG battery enables real-world ranges around 45-50 miles, with manufacturer claims up to 75 miles
- Excellent hill-climbing ability, often cited near a 35-degree grade
- Dual 160mm hydraulic disc brakes with electronic ABS provide strong, confident stopping
- Durable aviation-grade aluminium chassis and a wide deck that aids stability at speed
- Class-leading real-world range — Rider Guide logged 59.5 miles on its test course, exceptional among hyper-scooters
- Mind-blowing acceleration, hitting 0-15 mph in about 2.0 seconds with the dual-throttle power boost
- Excellent ride quality from adjustable, swappable-cartridge elastomeric suspension
- Top-tier braking — stops from 15 mph in roughly 3.0 meters, among the best measured
- High build quality and durability with a strengthened stem clamp and 4th-gen frame
Cons
- Very heavy (around 92 lbs / 42 kg), making it impractical to carry for commuters
- Long charge time of roughly 20 hours with the standard single charger
- Rubber-cartridge suspension is firm and its performance varies with temperature and rider weight; some reviewers find it underwhelming
- Steering can exhibit play at the neck (the so-called ‘Dualtron wobble’) and the ABS has a learning curve
- Overkill for casual urban riders and demands experience to ride safely
- Very heavy at ~47 kg — too heavy to lift by the stem and not very portable
- No confirmed water-resistance rating despite the listed IPX5, so wet-weather use carries risk
- Low deck traction noted by reviewers
- Creaky stem reported under load
- Stiff suspension tuned for fast, smooth roads rather than rough terrain comfort
Verdict
4/5 Reviewer consensus · 3 sources
The Thunder 2 suits an experienced rider chasing hyper-class acceleration paired with genuinely class-leading range, and who can handle a ~47 kg machine. Its weight, stiff road-biased suspension and unconfirmed weather sealing are the trade-offs for that headline performance.
